Economic importance of reinsurance in Switzerland

Reinsurance insures insurance. Switzerland is one of the world's leading locations with its reinsurance centre in the financial centre of Zurich. Swiss reinsurance companies are characterised by their global activities and high productivity. This strengthens Swiss exports. In 2020, their added value amounted to CHF 4.8 billion, i.e. almost one fifth of the total added value of the insurance industry. The real economic output of reinsurance has more than tripled since 2000.
