Since 1980 BAK Economics has specialised in analysing industries and regions using a variety of methods. In many European metropolises the financial sector has developed into an important pillar of value creation and prosperity. Within its economic studies, BAK Economics produces forecasts and analyses for the financial sector on both an empirical and quantitative level.
Classification of regional framework conditions
Comparison of competing financial centres and elaboration of performance indicators, market potential and framework conditions
Collection of national and also delimited data from different financial centre locations as good indicators for the respective leading financial centre
«Monitoring Financial Centers»
In the project "Monitoring Financial Centers" various competing financial centres are described and compared with each other. The financial services sector is subdivided into banks, insurance companies and other financial services with a very detailed presentation of the performance and its analysis.
Indicators - Performance & framework conditions
In the financial sector, there is a wide gap between the usual economic performance indicators and the indicators used by the majority of the industry itself. Therefore, both aspects are taken into account. The natural market limitations (geographical, national, cultural) are measured and compared. Tax legislation also plays an important role, as taxes on the one hand change the total volume available, and on the other hand drive a wedge between the service provided by the financial sector and the benefit to the customer.
The following list provides an overview of the financial centres relevant to the project:
Switzerland (Zurich, Geneva, Ticino, Basel)
United Kingdom (London, Edinburgh)
USA (New York, Chicago)
China (Hong Kong, Shanghai)
